THE Zambia Martial Arts Association (ZaMAA) will today host the Heroes Open Karate Championship at the Italian school in Lusaka at which close to 100 karatekas are expected to participate.
According to ZaMAA chairperson, Moodley Chola, the event has attracted interest from across the country with the finest karatekas expected to take part.
“We are getting some encouraging information on the number of entries for this tournament. We are having more and more clubs and individuals confirming. We will also have a number of kids’ competition,” Chola said.
He said the youngsters were the future of the sport and should always be given a chance to horn their skills.
Chola said the event was one that would also give the budding karatekas the best competition needed to grow their skills.
ZaMAA has set aside two bicycles which will be rode home by the best male and the best female karatekas of the event.
Apart from cycling home, the winners of all the categories will each receive a certificate from the association.
This will be the first tournament that ZaMAA will be holding after the impasse that rocked the Zambia Martial Arts Federation was resolved following intervention from the Sports Council of Zambia.
