THE 51st Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Ndola has opened its gates to members of the public with Commerce Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe expressing confidence that the annual event will be a success.
Various stands in the show premises are ready for the event as members of the public from all walks of life trooped to have a feel of the much awaited occasion.
Ms Mwanakatwe flagged-off the event with a march-past from Kafubu Mall to the Trade Fair Grounds.
The Zambia Police Brass Band led the procession with some majorettes who were on hand to provide entertainment and add colour to the procession much to the amusement of onlookers.
Some of the companies that took part in the one hour marching, included the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA), the Ndola City Council, and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission among others.
The ZITF which has attracted 450 exhibitors both local and international is being held under the theme, ‘Promoting Prosperity through Business and Linkages’.
The event will be graced by Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta who will be in the company of President Edgar Lungu for the official opening on Saturday.
“The event is colourful and we are happy with the improved structures at the Show Grounds. The innovation has attracted a lot of exhibitors both local and foreign, we have 17 countries exhibiting this year,” Ms Mwanakatwe said.
Ms Mwanakatwe expressed happiness that more foreign exhibitors were taking keen interest in exhibiting at the Show.
ZITF board chairperson Emmanuel Hachipuka said this year’s event would be unique as two Heads of States were expected to grace the official opening.
Mr Hachipuka said having the Presidents would add value to the Show for both the exhibitors and the show-goers.
