By JAMES KUNDA –
ZAMBEZI Resources Limited (ZRL) will soon start developing its flagship Kangaluwi Copper project in the Lower Zambezi
National park.
This follows the reversal of an earlier rejected Environmental Impact Study (EIS) by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.
Last week, the Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection overturned a decision to reject the EIS by ZEMA and granted
Zambezi Resources a go ahead with the Kangaluwi copper project in which more than US$5.85 million will be invested over a two-year period.
Zambezi Resources chairperson David Vilensky said the company would now proceed with steps to take the Kangaluwi Copper project into its development stage.
“The company welcomes the Government’s decision to allow the Kangaluwi Copper project in the Lower Zambezi National Park to proceed to the development stage.
“Securing formal approval of the EIS represents a major milestone for the Company as we can now take steps and proceed to take the project into development and become an emerging producer,” Mr Vilensky said.
This is contained in a statement made available by the Australian Stock Exchange listed firm in Ndola.
Mr Vilensky said the company commends Government for the decision as Kangaluwi will open up a new start of exploration in 2004 confirmed to date mineral deposits of 308,000 tonnes of copper metal
of which 50,000 tonnes is oxide resource.
