DEC nabs 2 students over cannabis

TWO students of Mulungushi University in Kabwe have been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for trafficking in cannabis.
Ndambo Chinda, 22, and Missael Mwanza, 23, were apprehended this week and appeared in the Kabwe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where they pleaded guilty to the offence.
Chinda was nabbed with 43 muffins containing cannabis while Mwanza was arrested for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 32.1 grammes.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo, who announced the arrest of the two students in a statement yesterday, said the duo would appear for mention in the same court today.
A check at the Kabwe Magistrate’s Ccourt showed that Mwanza was a fourth-year student at Mulungushi University.
Mwanza, who appeared before magistrate Maxwell Shiwanga, admitted to trafficking in marijuana without authority.
Meanwhile, a female business executive of Chaisa Township in Lusaka has been arrested by DEC for trafficking in heroin.
Kelvina Simomba, 43, was arrested in Chaisa and will appear in court soon.
DEC also arrested a 17-year-old boy of Bauleni Township in Lusaka for trafficking in 29 sachets of heroin and loose cannabis.
In a related incident, three people were arrested by DEC in Northern Province for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing more than 30 Kilogrammes (Kg).
George Sikazwe, 32, a peasant farmer of Kasesha Village in Mbala District, was apprehended along with Moses Schichondwe, 25, of Kapoka Village and Febby Namukimbwe, 27, of Vwamba Village of Mpulungu
District, for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 28kg and 2.3Kg, respectively.
Ms Katongo said the three would appear in court soon.
