CONSTRUCTION of a police station worth K14.6 million in newly created Ngabwe District of Central Province has commenced.
Canbert Enterprises Limited the contractor engaged in the construction had moved on site and commenced the construction of the police station worth K14.6million.
Site manager Obbie Koomah said the company has also been engaged to construct 10 low cost and two medium cost houses in the district.
He said the company had already started setting up the police station and foundations had been done.
Mr Koomah said the company had so far employed 20 local people and was expecting to employ more as works advanced.
“We moved on site and we completed our feasibility studies and cleared the land, we have so far done the foundation for the police station which we are hopeful would be completed on time before we move to the construction of 12 houses in the area,” Mr Koomah said.
He said so far, works were progressing well and expected to finish within the stipulated time frame.
Meanwhile, Ngabwe District Commissioner Melody Phiri said after inspecting the constructions works, she was happy with the progress.
The District Commissioner said Government was happy that contractors had started moving on site to construct the police station among other structures.
“We are happy as Government to see these projects coming up because that is exactly what people want and we promised to bring development to all areas in the country, especially in the newly created districts,” Ms Phiri said.
She added that Government would ensure that the projects were completed on time to better the delivery of services to the local people.
Ms Phiri said the local people would benefit from the contractors who had created employment opportunities.
