SINAZONGWE District Council has expressed concern at the poor participation of community members in implementing developmental projects under the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
While in some constituencies there have been alleged flaws in the utilisation of CDF by local authorities as well as members of Parliament, in Sinazongwe, concern surrounds poor participation by the community.
Acting council secretary Jackson Bwalya, bemoaned the poor community participation in CDF projects in which some local people were inactively involved in the execution of various projects.
Mr Bwalya said this when he presented a progress report on infrastructural projects during a meeting with newly appointed District Commissioner Protacial Mulenga.
“As a council, we have a lot of challenges when it comes to projects and activities under CDF such as poor community participation because some people are not actively involved at all,” he said.
Among other CDF projects was the construction of four staff houses at Siawaza Primary School at a cost of K281,000 in which two houses had been completed while the remaining houses were at plastering level.
He said transport inadequacies were hindering the local authority from carrying out on-the-spot checks of various projects in the mountainous district.
