A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD woman has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for killing another woman whom she was married with to the same man.
Margaret Luabula pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges for strangling Beatrice Hangoma aged 22, in June 2012.
Kabwe High Court judge-in-charge, Dominic Sichinga slapped the sentence on Luabula during proceedings yesterday.
Luabula strangled Ms Hangoma, who was the first wife, during an altercation at a family meeting to discuss matrimonial problems. Both women were married to Conrad Hangoma.
Mr Hangoma had called for the family meeting, where his two wives fought, leading to the death of Ms Hangoma.
State advocate, Maybin Mulenga presenting various facts to the court, said Ms Hingoma, who was the first wife, advised the junior wife, to raise issues relating to the problems they faced but that this angered Luabula, who resorted to physical violence.
Mr Mulenga said the convict squeezed other wife by the throat, which was later proved during postmortem that she died as a result of strangulation.
The case was reported to police who later arrested Luabula.
In mitigation through her lawyer Kamo Simfukwe, Luabula pleaded for leniency but the court said her actions were uncalled for especially that a life had been lost and that the sentencing should be used as a time to reflect on her actions.
