THREE youths of Kabwe have been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each for assault.
Kabwe High Court Judge-in-charge Dominic Sichinga has jailed Humphrey Musonda, Robert Zulu and Bostan Chikotolo for aggravated assault.
The three, who were armed with a knife, assaulted and stole a phone and K250 cash all valued at K450 from Brian Mwale.
On October 11 last year, around 19:00 hours Mwale was at a bar with his friends drinking and watching Television and as he was about to leave the bar, Musonda, Zulu and Chikotolo called him out and asked him to buy them cigarettes.
Mwale told them that he did not have money and that it was how they pounced on him and started kicking him and beating him and stole his phone and a K250.
He managed to escape and reported the matter to Chowa Police station and went to Kabwe General Hospital where he was treated for a swollen forehead and body pains.
In mitigation, the three pleaded with the court to exercise lenience on them as they were first offenders and did not waste the court’s time.
Mr Justice Sichinga in passing judgment convicted and sentenced each one to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
