AN officer who was found sleeping on duty in the National Registration Card (NRC) issuance centre, yesterday openly shed tears after Kabwe District Commissioner Patrick Chishala threatened to have her replaced.
Mr Chishala, who made a surprise visit to Kabwe Mine Basic School, said he was disheartened that some officers engaged by the Government were not taking the exercise seriously.
He warned that he will not hesitate to recommend to have such officers replaced.
Mr Chishala, who was speaking when he addressed the officers and residents who had turned up to obtain the identity cards, said he was saddened to find the officer sleeping instead of assisting people.
“Instead of you assisting people to obtain the identity cards, you are sleeping. This goes to show that you are not fit for this job, to this end, I strongly feel you should take leave so that we bring in other people who are able to do the job,” he said.
He said he would not allow such acts to go on and challenged those who feel the job is too demanding, to write to his office so that they can be replaced.
But officers there pleaded with Mr Chishala not to have her replaced and explained that she was lying down because she was unwell due to fatigue.
But the woman said she was fine when Mr Chishala asked her if she had been issued with any medical report.
She said she was fit to continue with work and asked for forgiveness for her conduct.
Meanwhile, people have continued to flock to most registration points to obtained or replace their NRCs.
