PAPUA New Guinea has offered to host the 8th heads of State and Government Summit for African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States this year.
The officials from the Pacific island nation occupying the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and numerous offshore islands, volunteered to host the summit yesterday following a passionate appeal from the ACP officials here.
Earlier, the ACP Council of Ministers president Sato Kilman and ACP secretary-general, Patrick Gomes appealed to the member countries to consider offering to host the Summit in November this year.
Initially, the Republic of Suriname was supposed to host the meeting last year but failed to do so.
The summit for the Heads of State and Government will be a culmination of the ACP commemoration of 40 years of existence following its founding in 1975.
Further, the meeting will provide an opportunity for the Heads of State and Government to receive the final report of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG).
The EPG was appointed during the 7th Summit in Equatorial Guinea in 2012.
The Summit for Heads of State and Government is the Supreme decision-making organ of the ACP Group which is supposed to be held every after two or three years.
