BUDDING national team player, Gabriel Chibale was on African Freedom Day crowned the 2015 Ndola Golf Club champion when he carded 12-over-par 231 after three days of fierce action.
Chibale, who shot gross scores of 76, 80 and 75 over 54 holes, was a massive seven strokes ahead of second-placed, Kelvin Chibuye, another international player, while Vikash Patel finished third on 251 gross.
Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) vice-chairperson Emmanuel Katebe picked up the B Division top accolade after carding a 261, a shot better than Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) treasurer, Humphrey Mutambo.
Former ZGU vice-president south, Welani Chilengwe tied for third with Mulenga Mpuku on 264.
In the C Division, Hennie Kruger shot 197 after 36 holes to win the first prize and was trailed by former Zampost postmaster general, Paul Simfukwe.
Simfukwe claimed the second position after winning a count back over former ZGU president, Alex Mashano following a tie on 201.
Katebe’s wife, Rose prevailed in the ladies section after 36 holes and was trailed by Esther Yambayamba and Shantel Bouveri.
Meanwhile, after finishing joint ninth at the R1 million-rich (about K600,000) Lombard Insurance Classic in Swaziland, Zambia’s top golfer Madalitso Muthiya will next compete at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Presented By Samsung.
Muthiya, whose good performance earned him R19,453 (about K11,700) at the Royal Swazi Sun Country Club on Sunday, will participate in the R650,000 (K390,000) Vodacom Origins set for Langebaan Country Estate in South Africa on June 4-6.
Before playing in the Vodacom Origins proper, Muthiya will warm up in a Pro-Am on June 2-3.
However, another top Zambian player, Dayne Moore will need to get it right in the Vodacom Origins qualifier on June 1.
Earlier this month, Muthiya reaped €6,500 (about K53,300) on his European Tour debut at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Championship.
Last month, Muthiya reaped about K30,600 for his participation in the Mopani/Redpath Zambia Open and Zambia Sugar Open championships, respectively.
