AN unknown woman has dumped a two-day-old baby at a dumpsite in Kapisha Township in Chingola.
The bouncy baby girl weighing 3.2 kilogrammes was discovered wrapped in a sack by passersby who heard her crying.
It was then that the passersby took the baby to Kabundi clinic where it was examined by clinical officers and found to be in good health.
Kabundi clinic health personnel later transferred the baby to Nchanga North Hospital for further observation.
The baby has since been given the name ‘Joy’.
This is the second time that a newly-born baby has been dumped at the same place in Chingola’s Kapisha Township.
On September 17, 2013, a baby boy was picked up from the same dumpsite where it was found wrapped in a plastic bag and was taken to Kabundi clinic for observation.
The baby was named ‘Moses’ and up to now the mother has not come forward to claim the child. He is still under the care of an orphanage in Kitwe.
Mwewokani Women’s Organisation chairperson Charity Kalebaika said it was sad that Kapisha Township had continued to experience such bizarre incidents and, worse, at the same place.
Ms Kalebaila said ‘Moses’ is now grown and is regularly visited by members of Mwewokani Women’s Organisation.
“I’m appealing to well-wishers to bring donations to another dumped baby (Joy) because you never know why God has kept this baby alive,” Ms Kalebaila said. “The mother wanted the baby to die but she was found alive. Children are future leaders.”
