ZESCO has constracted a mother’s shelter at Kafue Gorge Community Hospital valued at K 565,000.
Zesco acting managing director Victor Mundende said the shelter was donated as an act of corporate social responsibility by the corporation.
He said the shelter will ease challenges faced by people nursing their loved ones at the hospital.
Mr Mundende was speaking during the handover of the mothers shelter in Chikankata District.
“The shelter is meant to accommodate people nursing their loved ones. It will help in easing accommodation and cooking challenges. The total cost of the building and the equipment to be used in easing people’s lives was at the cost of K565, 000,” he said.
The corporation also bought stoves and furniture for use by those nursing patients.
Chikankata acting District Commissioner (DC) Trevor Kayanda appreciated Zesco management for complementing Government’s effort regarding the health sector.
The DC said it was a timely gesture as people faced many challenges especially in the cold season.
“We thank Zesco for the donation as it is timely, especially that it is cold,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chikankata district medical officer Keith Mweebo said the gesture by Zesco would reduce the challenges that patients and those nursing them faced.
Dr Mweebo said the shelter would enable women to stay in a safe environment.
He challenged the community as well as care givers to take good care of the facility.
