BILTON Musonda has been appointed Green Buffaloes’ head coach, replacing Wedson Nyirenda, who has since been released from his contract by the Zambia Army after ditching the club for Mozambican side, Ferroviário da Beira.
Nyirenda breached his contract with Buffaloes by signing another deal with Ferroviário two weeks ago before he was cleared by the Zambia Army.
Army spokesperson Chris Musonda said Nyirenda has been cleared to take up the new job after the Mozambican club agreed to meet the contractual obligation he had with Buffaloes.
“Zambia Army command has cleared Green Buffaloes coach Mr Wedson Nyirenda to take up his new coaching job at Club Ferroviário in Beira, Mozambique after the Mozambican Club agreed to meet the contractual obligation which was binding to Mr Nyirenda who was on a one year renewable contract with Buffaloes,” he said.
Musonda said this in a statement released in Lusaka yesterday that Nyirenda was enjoying very good conditions of service when compared to what some other coaches at some clubs are getting.
“As sponsors of the club, the army appeals to the Zambia Football Coaches Association and Football Association of Zambia to encourage coaches to stay with their respective clubs until the end of the season or at least half way through the season before they think of moving to other clubs,” he said.
Musonda said the command, however, wishes Nyirenda well at his new club and is grateful for the job he did during his short stay at Buffaloes.
Nyirenda managed two wins and draws but suffered three defeats that saw Buffaloes stay on eight points after seven matches played.
Meanwhile, Musonda said Bilton has been appointed head coach and he will be assisted by former player, Noel Mwandila.
