Nkwazi 8 Arrows 14
CHAMPIONS Red Arrows maintained their unbeaten run and 12 point lead at the summit of the National Rugby League (NRL) table after narrowly edging Nkwazi in a Week 10 closely fought encounter.
The win lifted Arrows to 42 points as Chibuluma sneaked into second place after beating struggling ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka while Nkwazi dropped into third on 27 points followed by Green Eagles who picked up a point in their defeat to ‘Men At Work’ Diggers.
Eagles are on 24 points while Diggers are sixth on 18 points, Lusaka are five points adrift while Mufulira and Prisons, on 12 and five points respectively were out of action due to a bereavement in the latter’s camp.
Mutinta Malambo and Peter Mulenga scored a try each as terry Kaushiku and Simon Kapindu made the conversions to propel the airmen to victory over the ‘Policemen’ who scored a try through Macdonald Machiwa but Laston Bwalya failed the conversion though made up with a penalty.
Lusaka 8 Chibuluma 11
Lusaka’s season continued getting from bad to worse as the former Zambian champions suffered their sixth defeat of the season winning twice and drawing one match.
A Paston Kasonde’s try and two penalties from Kennedy Bwalya, who failed to make the conversion, Dean Zulu was enough for Chibuluma to claim maximum points to continue piling pressure on Arrows.
Meanwhile, in the B League, leaders Green Buffaloes grabbed a slender 11-8 win over Konkola as Roan battered Kansanshi 36-0 with Nchanga thumping ‘Killer Ness’ Ndola Wanderers 20-5 while Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF) were on bye.
