GOVERNMENT will commission the rehabilitation of the Solwezi-Chingola Road in two weeks time, President Edgar Lungu has said.
Mr Lungu said he would ensure that the works on the Solwezi-Chingola Road commenced.??“I want to personally commission the road because it is the promise I made to the people,” Mr Lungu said.
Mr Lungu said he had made a campaign promise to rehabilitate the road during his tenure.?President Lungu was responding to an appeal from Solwezi chiefs.
Chiefs Mumena, Mujimanjovu, Kalilele, Musele, Kapijimpanga, Matebo, Chikola, Mulonga in a statement read by Chief Mumena appealed to President Lungu to refurbish the Solwezi-Chingola Road.
He said the contractor had been identified and the process was complete.??Government was concentrating on roads because they were key to trade.
Earlier, Chief Mumena said the Solwezi-Chingola Road would be a lifeline for the people of North-Western Province when redone.
He said in its current state, the road was a death trap.??Chief Mumena also said the chiefs were grateful to President Lungu on his stance on mine taxes because it brought a sense of ease.
