SOME armed political cadres yesterday went on a rampage threatening to take over the City Market Bus Station where several bus drivers are said to have been beaten during the fracas.
It is believed that some drivers were injured in the process and had been rushed to University Teaching Hospital (UTH), while wind screens of some buses were shattered.
The weapon-wielding cadres stormed the market around 06:00 hours where they demanded to take over the Ndola-Kitwe loading bay.
Lusaka Province Police chief, Charity Katanga was waiting for a report on the incident by press time.
“I am aware of the situation but I am still waiting for a report,” Ms Katanga said.
Peter Mati, a representative of the bus drivers Station said the cadres were armed with guns and other weapons which they used to beat up his colleagues.
Mr Mati claimed that the cadres even fired some gun shots.
A bus driver, who refused to be identified, however, questioned the nationality of the cadres because they did not have identity cards like the National Registration cards.
He appealed to the Government to intensify security because he wondered where the cadres got the weapons from.
