SUPERSPORT has partnered with Exodus International Boxing Promotions (EIBP) to beam live the World International Boxing Association (WIBA) and World International Boxing Federation (WIBF) welterweight unification title between Esther Phiri and South Africa’s Sandra Almeida.
SuperSport Southern Africa marketing manager Marlon Kananda said at a Press briefing at Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel in Lusaka that his company was pleased to be part of Esther’s comeback fight.
Kananda said SuperSport would love to showcase Zambia’s boxing talent to the African continent by partnering with EIBP in televising Esther’s fight against Almeida set for May 22 at Government Complex in Lusaka.
“We will televise two hours of the fight which is about 75 percent of the fight, our partnership with Exodus comes way back and we would like to showcase Esther in action to the entire continent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wonderful Group of Companies have partnered with the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) to have the fight televised on the national television.
Executive director Luca Ngulube said Esther’s fight is important for the stable and fans, hence their commitment to have it televised on ZNBC.
Spruceland Tech Group Limited has also come on board to aid EIBP with K10, 000 towards the hosting of the fight, while Lusaka Voice will cater for all transport needs for the boxers starting from the arrival of foreign boxers in a package worth K20, 000.
EIBP marketing manager Jonathan Chilonda said the stable had a deficit of K150, 000 from its K620, 000 budget to successfully host the fight.
“After the coming in of new sponsors, we now have a K150, 000 deficit to host the fight and we are still appealing to sponsors to come on board,” he said.
Esther said she would not have challenges in beating Almeida with her new power punch because she was adequately prepared.
“I have been training hard and Sandra will not give me a challenge. I will not talk much but have something to prove in the ring,” she said.
