SHOPRITE Holdings Group is set to create more than 1,000 jobs across the country in its expansion programme.
The group is expected to create more than 1, 000 direct jobs and 400 indirect through the seven new supermarkets to be opened across the country.
Group general manager-Zambia Charles Bota said, to respond to the growing population across the country, the company would be opening the US$7million Chililabombwe Shopping Mall on May 28, 2015.
“We have built our own shopping mall in Chililabombwe at the cost of $7 million which will be opening its doors to the public on May 28.
We are opening another outlet in Chingola as a tenant in November this year,” Mr Bota said.
Others include the second own store and another one in Makeni.
Mr Bota said in an interview in Lusaka that the Group is also planning to open outlets in Solwezi, Choma, and Petauke.
“Another one is Chirundu where we will be breaking ground next month,” he said.
Mr Bota further said the group had plans to open a store in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with the aim of promoting Zambian produced products in that country.
He said the store would be opened next year once land issue was finalised as the group was aiming at having farmers supply to them in Chingola and then take the products across the DRC.
