By YVONNE CHATE – GOVERNMENT is concerned with the recruitment process of new employees at Dangote Cement Limited in Masaiti District.
Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister Alfreda Kansembe has since directed management at the company to conduct the hiring process in a manner that would rope in people on merit.
But Dangote human resources manager Robby Mumba said the company was responsive to the needs of employees and had even provided skills training.
Ms Kansembe was speaking when she visited the US$400 million cement plant in Masaiti on Monday.
She encouraged investors in the country to employee workers on merit.
“Employing people should not be based on ethnical background, tribalism, nepotism or corruption because this will affect the Government’s agenda of job creation, “she said.
Ms Kansembe said management should address the disparity in the conditions of service between expatriates and ordinary employees.
She said Government expected a lot from Dangote in terms of revenue, development and employment opportunities.
Mr Mumba said the company was training three Zambians in engineering at the Copperbelt University while others were sent to Nigeria to learn various techniques in cement production at the Dangote cement company in Lagos.
