VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has called for training of more girls in science and mathematics to help stir their participation in economic growth.
Ms Wina said inclusion of the girl-child in science and mathematics training was important for national development and urged the Rotary International Club to help in training more girls in the two subjects.
She was speaking at her office when Rotary International president Gary Huang, who is in the country on a three-day visit called on her.
“As Government, we are happy with the works of Rotary International Club, we urge you to help us in training more girls in science and mathematics so that we move our country’s economy forward,” she said.
Ms Wina said Government was grateful to the organisation for its support in improving the living standards of vulnerable groups in society.
She was happy that the organisation had been implementing viable programmes citing the eradication of polio and malaria in many African nations in which Zambia had benefited a lot.
Mr Huang, who was on his second visit to Zambia, said his organisation in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) would implement various health programmes aimed at eradicating diseases such as polio and malaria.
“As an international organisation, we hope to implement more health programmes in African countries like Zambia to improve the living standards of people,” he said.
Mr Huang hailed President Edgar Lungu for appointing Ms Wina as Zambia’s first female Vice President.
He said the appointment of more women in higher decision-making positions was commendable and he assured Mr Lungu of more unwavering support from his organisation.
