THE Adventist Development and Relief Agency International (ADRA) is implementing a Small Holder Agri-Business Initiative (SHABI) valued at US$ 647,936 (K4, 729,932) in Mambwe District in Eastern Province.
The project, which will run for 36 months is aimed at mitigating poverty levels in the district.
Mambwe District Commissioner Caroline Mwanza informed the just ended Eastern Province Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) meeting in Chipata that the main aim of the project was to contribute towards poverty and hunger reduction among small holder farmers.
Ms Mwanza said so far, ADRA had established an irrigation system at a cost of K325, 000 under the SHABI project and also procured three oil pressers at K69, 000 and three Toyo tri-cycles at a cost of K49, 500.
“ADRA launched the Small Holder Agri-business Initiative (SHABI) project which would run for 36 months at a total cost of $ 647,936.
The aim of the project is to contribute towards poverty and hunger reduction among small holder farmers in Zambia,” she said.
She said despite successes recorded in the district, most Government departments were understaffed.??Ms Mwanza said the district had also been hit with the erratic funding in most of the departments.
