LIVINGSTONE Member of Parliament (MP) Lawrence Evans has urged Patriotic Front (PF) members in Southern Province to unite and work together to enable the ruling party win more parliamentary seats in the province during 2016 general elections.
Mr Evans, who is the only PF MP in Southern Province, said there was need for party members to set aside their differences and focus on acquiring more parliamentary seats in the province.
He said it was unfortunate that some members were orchestrating a plot to remove him instead of organising and strengthening the ruling party.
Mr Evans was reacting to an incident in Livingstone at the weekend where two PF factions, who are supporting him and those against him, exchanged punches in the ZNBC newsroom.
One faction had written to Mr Evans to suspend him as Livingstone MP, while the other lifted his suspension and both parties clashed when they met at ZNBC Livingstone Office.
“It is very unfortunate that we have some PF infighting here in Livingstone where I am area MP and the only PF MP in Southern Province.
“All I can say to the people of Livingstone is that let’s hold hands together if we want PF to grow in the province. If we are going to be undermining each other, we will destroy this party,” Mr Evans said.
He said the ruling party should be preaching love and unity of purpose instead of fighting their area MP.??“If people feel I have an issue, they should call me and engage me instead of fighting so that we iron these issues.
“In-fighting has the potential to kill the party. Let us join hands and work together. The business of undermining each other will not work,” he said.
Mr Evans said he had received a suspension letter from some officials in Livingstone which had since been declared null and void by the party’s provincial leadership.
“I am loyal member of PF and I am here to grow the party in Livingstone. My relationship with the people is warm but it is just a few elements that are disturbing the party. I would like the people of Livingstone to engage me so that we iron out our differences,” Mr Evans said.
