KABWE Golf Club captain Kamal Desai has said the executive committee will this weekend meet to set the date for the special annual general meeting and hearing of the petition by 23 members.
The members have petitioned the executive committee to convene a special meeting to determine the suitability of the Desai-led leadership in running the affairs of the club.
Article 22 of the club constitution states that the club executive committee may convene a special general meeting when any question of urgent importance shall arise and the committee shall be bound by to do so on receiving a requisition signed by 10 ordinary members at the club.
Desai, who declined to comment on the allegations raised in the petition, said all the matters in question will be heard at the special meeting.
“This is a constitutional matter and the executive will meet on Friday or Saturday to come up with a date for a special meeting. I will not talk about the allegations against me but I think everything will be concluded at the special meeting where we will also defend ourselves,” Desai said.
Among other issues raised by the 23 petitioners, include the alleged thwarting of the constitution by allowing invalid nominations for elections in clear contrast to the legal provisions and the running of the club without trustees, a president and his vice which are vital to good governance.
The members also accused Desai of having irregularly obtained loans on behalf of the club without seeking the approval of voting members and that the staff at the club has gone four months without being paid their dues.
Meanwhile, Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) honorary secretary Kelly Munsaka said the union will not interfere in the issues currently obtaining in Kabwe.
Munsaka said Kabwe Golf Club should settle the scores in line with the club constitution and that ZGU will only intervene if a crisis arises.
“The Kabwe issue is completely domestic that has to be resolved within the confines of the club constitution. We will not interfere in their affairs,” Munsaka said.
