GOVERNMENT has degazetted National Forest number 38 Dola Hill in Ndola which will see the construction of about 1,700 housing units.
The degazettation was announced yesterday during the Ndola City Council (NCC) full council meeting held at the chambers following Statutory Instrument Number 17 of 2015 carried in the Supplement of Government Republic of Zambia Gazette on March 13, 2015.
Ndola Mayor Samuel Munthali, who chaired the meeting, said following the degazettation of the forest, construction of the housing units, shopping mall and the industrial park would now begin.
NCC entered into a partnership with the Henan Gouji Group to build the modern infrastructure under a public private partnership (PPP) in 2013.
The housing units would be sold to would be buyers who would be required to pay a certain percentage during the start of the constructions.
The local authority has since prepared layout plans and would soon submit them to the Ministry of Lands for numbering and further instructions. Part of the land would be sold to the members of the public.
Meanwhile the meeting also approved the demolition of Lubuto Library to pave way for a construction of a mini shopping mall.
An investor Inos Holdings Limited has offered to invest about K1, 200 million for the said project which would also cater for two other mini malls in Ndeke and Chifubu Townships.
