THE Government has said that it is only possible to grow the economy, create jobs and respect workers’ rights with an effective Police Service.
Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba said on
Friday that internal security was critical to achieving the country’s aspirations to grow the economy, create jobs, have a free bargaining process and respect workers’ rights.
Dr Mwaba was speaking when he officiated at the Labour Day celebrations for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Zambia Police at
Lilayi senior officers’ mess in Lusaka.
“It is not possible to achieve this year’s Labour Day theme without internal security. Our role is critical to the development of the nation,” Dr Mwaba said.
He said there was need for the country to be secure to enable an
environment to create jobs, and the police were the ones that could ensure that there was no abuse of workers.
Dr Mwaba congratulated those that had won various awards, saying it was not an excuse to slow down but to even work harder. As for those that did not win, their role was to equally work hard.
The permanent secretary said Zambia police had successfully supervised by-elections, both presidential and parliamentary.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs needed to aim even higher and become better.
The aim of the ministry was to have one goal of an even more secure Zambia through hard work.
Many people in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Zambia Police Service were awarded for hard work, improving in their work and for being honest.
