NKANA hope to maintain their four-match unbeaten run in the Kitwe derby when they host Power Dynamos at Nkana Stadium this afternoon in an MTN-FAZ Super League Week Seven clash.
The 12-time champions head into the match, to be beamed live on SuperSport, with two wins and as many draws against Power, who last beat Nkana in October, 2012 with a 2-0 home victory at Arthur Davies.
Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi, who guided his side to a 2-1 away win in the two side’s lasts meeting last October, said he will not underrate the team’s opponents who have been out-of-sorts despite their third spot placing on the table on 10 points.
Furthermore, 10th placed Nkana who have six points are looking for a much improved performance at home after a scoreless away draw at Green Eagles last weekend.
“We played away from home against Eagles and it wasn’t an easy game but I am happy with the way the boys are playing but again it will be a different ball game playing Power Dynamos.
“We have to prepare very well and see to it that each and every player is mentally and physically fit,” Chambeshi said.
Personnel-wise, Nkana will be without goalkeeper Scott Ngokane, who was red carded against Eagles, and so Rabson Muchelenganga is set to reclaim his number one spot.
Captain and midfielder Donashano Malama is fit after missing training earlier last week ahead of the derby.
But midfielder Claude Bwalya remains a doubt due to an injury sustained against Zesco a fortnight ago.
Meanwhile, the pressure is on Power coach Tennant Chilumba in this derby.
Chilumba has not won a single derby match since taking charge in June, 2013 with all four winless matches coming under his reign.
Furthermore, Chilumba has been left stripped of his attacking options due to injury and contractual issues.
Jimmy Ndhlovu, who has four league goals for Power this season, is ineligible to play due to a clause in his loan deal from Nkana.
Striker Felix Sunzu has struggling with an injury over the last two weeks so too is Luka Lungu who limped off in the 1-all home draw with Mufulira Wanderers last Saturday.
Chilumba’s only legitimate attacking option is Ignatius Lwipa but he has struggled to find the target since March 21 when Power beat Lusaka Dynamos 3-0 in Kitwe.
