ZAMBIA beat Zimbabwe 30-19 in an international handball friendly match played at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
But it was a different story for the women team that suffered a narrow 15-14 defeat in the other game played on Friday evening.
The Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) was using the friendly games to help the national team prepare for the pending Congo Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games (AAG) qualifier against Angola.
Apart from the AAG qualifiers, HAZ is also preparing the Under-20 team for the World Youth Championships slated for Sweden in June.
HAZ communications manager Josab Changa expressed happiness with the performance of the two teams.
“Our teams played well, and we could even see it. Sadly it was very tight for our girls and this can only be owing to bad officiating otherwise they could have won just like the boys,” he said.
Changa said the performance by the two teams has given the association hope of recording good results when they go for their respective engagements.
“Our players are improving and this is a good sign because we were able to identify those that can represent the country in international tournaments,” he said.
