A WOMAN of Pemba District has murdered her mother and buried the body in a shallow grave about 40 metres away from their home.
Joyce Mutinta, 23, of Hanyezu Village in Chief Hamaundu’s area has since been arrested by police and charged with murder.
Mutinta allegedly murdered her mother, Luziya Nambulo, 61, on Sunday and buried her near their home.
She was however, spotted by some people in the neighbourhood, who reported the matter to police.
Southern Province Police Chief Mary Chikwanda said Mutinta allegedly murdered her mother for unknown reasons but police have instituted investigations.
“We received a report where a woman is alleged to have killed her mother and later buried her about 40 metres away from their home in a shallow grave,” she said.
The body was, however, exhumed and taken to Pemba clinic where a post-mortem would be carried out.
In Zimba District, a 33-year-old man of Kalunga Village committed suicide by setting himself alight in a thatched house a few hours after members of a local church prayed for him.
The incident happened on Tuesday at about 09:30 hours.
Aggrey Katobela of Chief Sipatunyana’s area is the seventh person to commit suicide in his family and the relatives opted to bury him the same day he died.
