Lusaka Province Police chief Charity Katanga said the two met their fate when they attempted to steal from a Ms Chola’s residence in the early hours of yesterday.
She said Ms Chola called for help upon realising that the criminals had entered her house.
The neighbours descended on the two thieves and beat them to death.
Ms Katanga said the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) awaiting identification.
She said no arrests have been made so far but the police have opened an inquiry file into the matter.
In another development, police have arrested a trio in connection with the murder of Jones Njobvu aged 54 a teacher of Chipapa Primary School, who was allegedly found dancing naked in someone else’s farm.
Ms Katanga said Yamfwa Mwila 30 a carpenter, Gilbert Simwamba, 35, a driver and John Simbeye, 45, a business executive of farm number 4508M Mapepe in Chilanga, were arrested for the murder of Mr Njobvu.
“The three killed Mr Njobvu at their farm on grounds of dancing naked, but based on the investigations made, it seems it’s not the case, as some pupils said they pleaded with the men not to kill their teacher,” she said.
The commissioner said Mr Njobvu was murdered on April 5 around 04:00 hours.
