THE Victim Support Unit (VSU) has instituted investigations on a man in Ndola who assaulted his wife and confined her for one week.
Grace Kapele was battered and confined in a former African Commercial Bank building on Kabelenga Road opposite Times offices in Ndola for one week.
VSU national coordinator Tresford Kasale described the act as a serious offence and the culprit needed to face the wrath of the law.
Mr Kasale advised the public to avoid taking the law in their hands and to find a better way of resolving disputes.
“This case is being investigated and the suspect will be brought to book as this is a serious GBV act,” Mr Kasale said.
Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Copperbelt regional coordinator Sharon Chisenga advised the woman not to withdraw the matter.
Ms Chisenga said the woman has been traumatised and needs to undergo serious counseling for her to recover.
She said there is a lot of abuse of substances by members of the public and it is important for the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to institute investigations.
Chairperson of the Trauma Healing Centre Jurita Mutale said the woman had been tortured psychologically and urged her to report the matter to the Police.
Ms Mutale said couples should not resort to violence whenever they have a misunderstandings in their relationships.
“Inflicting pain on someone is not the best way of resolving a problem, the best way is dialogue,” She said.
She said the woman had been hurt emotionally and should ensure that she reports that matter to the Police so that the man faces the law.
Zambia Police officers on Tuesday raided the Former African Commercial Bank Building to rescue the woman.
