SOUTH African professional James Kamte on Wednesday helped Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) president Charles Mwanza and the rest of the team win the Zambia Sugar Pro-Am tournament on a fan-packed day at the Lusaka Golf Club ahead of the 2015 Zambia Sugar Open Championship.
And 2012 Zambia Open champion Justin Harding sunk a hole-in-one on the ninth and had he waited just one more day before doing that, he could have driving back to South Africa in a $135, 000-worth Jaguar XF.
Just a day after local professional Patrick Mwendapole led his team to winning the Lusaka Golf Club Pro-Am, Kamte took up the mantle on Wednesday in the Zambia Sugar Pro-Am.
The only spot about their win was that they won the title with 90 points, which was two off the Mwendapole team but still, they did not need the count back that the Tuesday winners required to get the honour.
In this Zambia Sugar Pro-Am, Kamte was accompanied into the battle field by Mwanza, Faustin Kabwe and Clarence Mlambo. Each winning team member got an upright fridge.
Finishing in second place was a team led by another South African professional Jack Redman who had a youthful side that included Gabriel Chibale. Redman and team finished just a point off on 89 points and left Sports Minister Vincent Mwale ecstatic.
Redman with juniors Gabriel Chibale, Charles Shalubobya and Prince Kalebi brought 89 points to walk home with a washing machine each, a prize which would please especially each of the amateurs’ mothers.
Finishing third place was a team of professional Andrew McLardy who carded a score of 88 points and were recipients of four DSTV explorer decoders that would be distributed to member of the team.
The other team members were Loveness Ndhlovu, Dennis Chambwa and Ivan Bothman
In the subsidiaries prizes, Larry Kalala got the nearest to the pin accolade on the ninth hole with Mangani Banda taking the same honour on the sixth hole while Z Pandor and Arthur Ndhlovu were winners on the 16th and 11th, respectively and each received a Zambia Sugar hamper.
