FOUR people have died in a road accident in Siavonga District of Southern Province.
The four include three Germans and a Muvi Television correspondent Pricilla Phakati.
Zambia police spokesperson Charity Chanda said yesterday that, the Germans who included the driver and two medical doctors died on the spot, while Ms Phakati died upon arrival at
Siavonga District Hospital.
Ms Chanda said the incident happened at Muyumbwe, about 80 kilometres from Siavonga on Tuesday around 11:00 hours.
Ms Phakati was a wife to former Republican President Rupiah Banda’s grandson.
Ms Chanda said that the incident happened after the driver of a Toyota Prado Registration number ABE 2493 failed to keep to his side and collided with an unregistered construction vehicle working on the bottom road.
The four were heading to Chaanga Rural Health Centre where they were scheduled to attend to local people with dental problems.
Meanwhile, two criminals were gunned down while two others sustained injuries after they staged a robbery at a mine in Chambishi.
The four were shot after they attacked a Chinese, whose neighbour came to his rescue and opened fire, killing two and leaving the other two injured.
Ms Chanda confirmed the incident which happened last week on Wednesday night around 01:00 hours.
Ms Chanda said the four were in the company of nine others and were armed with an M56 rifle.
She said the criminals attacked the Chinese after they gained entry into their premises by breaking the window burglar bars.
They first beat up the victim together with a security guard before stealing goods worth K25,000.
Alert neighbours came to the aid of the colleague, by killing two criminals.
The rest managed to flee.
“Three out of those who escaped have since been arrested and are currently in custody. A manhunt has been launched for the remaining six,” Ms Chanda said.
She said a M56 rifle with 31 rounds of ammunition and house breaking implements were recovered from the scene of the crime.
