So you wake up once again, your family is well, you are well too and so you feel like you are on top of the world. But let me tell you something: IF YOUR NEIGHBOUR, FRIEND, OR FOE is in PAIN and you are REJOICING, then you haven’t learnt a dot about LOVE!! Infact, you should even stop priding yourself as an Agent of Change for no true Agent of change can witness a fellow human being, no matter the sin, being burnt alive and still keep quite about it like the blind, deaf and the dumb.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox once said, “to sin by silence when we should protest, makes cowards out of men!” Fellow citizens, when our South African black brothers and sisters where wallowing in pain, blood and tears under the evil hands of apartheid, we, Zambians and the rest of Africa, supported and helped to free them! Infact, to many a South African leader, we risking our well being, hid to make certain that one day that being, would free his fellow country men and women and innocent children.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, Xenophobia, madness, or whatsoever you call it, what some South Africans are doing is UNACCEPTABLE! Whether inspired by poverty, insanity, or lack of proper Education, their deeds are still unacceptable! Wherever he is, I am sure Mandela is ashamed of these chaps!
The only way to let evil prevail, they say, is by doing nothing about it. I beg you not to sin by your silence; also, yes praying for our South African friends is good but again, the Bible tells us that, faith without works is nothing! We have to react; we have to do something; and we must always remember, had the International community reacted faster, Hitler couldn’t have killed as many jews as he did!
It could have been me, it could have been you, it could have been your innocent relative getting beaten like a mad dog in SA. In a nutshell, I can only ask you, what will you do about the demons threatening peace in SA?- will you just sit dumb and watch evil prevail or, like QFM, will you stand up, protest, and fight for peace and Justice? The call is yours!
Andrea Matambo.
BLOOD OF THE INNOCENT
As we gather to mourn the innocent,
A dark cloud descends and unites with the flood.
A flood filled with tears in the blood.
The fangs of the burning tyre,
From the chain of our sight,
Shall never break loose.
The once fertility of the land,
Is now blood stained mud.
Yes!
Africa must never feed on blood.
Must never feed on ashes of the dead.
The sense of naked insanity,
Shall never be at variance with reality.
As I speak, here with me,
Your heartless shadow,
Sails in the hostile muddle.
In my ear your eye,
The precious blood stands silent.
The once bright star is now dim.
Men of Religion,
Where is your voice in that nation.
Men in the realm of power,
This is your hour.
