THE contractor working on the new Adult Medical Emergency Unit (AMEU) at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Hau Chan Infrastructure Engineering Limited says works at the site have not stalled but slowed.
This was in reaction to recent a publication in some sections of the media suggesting that the works on site had stalled.
Site manager Wang Hu said that the project would be completed behind schedule because of financial hold ups from the Ministry of Health.
Mr Hu said the development had forced his firm to temporarily lay off some of the workers as it awaited financing.
A check at the site revealed a small number of people working on the facility with the car park project looking almost abandoned.
Some workers who preferred anonymity said they feared for their jobs as they were not sure when the contractor would receive funding from the Government.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Reuben Mbewe said the ministry was aware of the dragging of the works at the UTH and confirmed that it was because of financial constraints.
