Peasant farmer nabbed over cannabis

A PEASANT farmer of Sinazongwe has been arrested for cultivating more than three tonnes of cannabis.
Leonard Mansanga, 43, of Mulonga-Munene Village was been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 3.9 tonnes.

DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said the Commission in other parts of the country has also arrested Christine Lufupa, 63, a peasant farmer of Mitec area in Solwezi District for cultivation of fresh cannabis plants intercropped with maize weighing 110 kilogrammes.
Others are Benson Mukwakwa, 45, a peasant farmer of Nyambe Village in Shibuyunji District for cultivation of cannabis also intercropped with maize, weighing 39.3 kilogrammes and Venancio Phiri, 38, a peasant farmer of Chinyaku Village in Chipata District for unlawful cultivation of 11 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The rest are Abraham Kaoma, 30, a peasant farmer of Kanyanta Village in Kasama District for unlawful cultivation of 21. 5 kilogrammes of cannabis, Daniel Siulapwa, 39, a peasant farmer of Katipa Village in Mbala District for trafficking in 3.7 kilogrammes of the same drug.
Fridah Chisanga, 29, a housewife of Ngungu Bwacha Compound in Kabwe was arrested for trafficking in 2.72 kilogrammes of cannabis.
On the Copperbelt, the Commission has arrested and jointly charged Edward Mbembe, 34, a peasant farmer of Kwa Kabwe area in Lufwanyama District and Ackson Phiri, 37, a peasant farmer of the same area for trafficking in 8.2 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Also arrested on the Copperbelt was Kennedy Chola, 19, of old Mushili Township in Ndola for trafficking in 9.1 kilogrammes of cannabis.
