By MILDRED KATONGO –
ONE of the six Kitwe ritual murder suspects has told the court that the five other accused people are not connected to the killing and should not be prosecuted.
The six appeared before the Kitwe magistrate court yesterday for killing Robson Chisanga, 34, who was dumped in the Kafue River with some body parts missing.
Charles Malunga told the court when the matter came up for mention that his five co-accused do not know anything about the brutal killing of Mr Chisanga.
Malunga and Mr Chisanga were caretakers for Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani’s residential plot in Nkana East.
He said the other five were innocent and that he knew everything about the killing of his friend because he lived with him.
“My friends do not know anything about the murder. I know everything because I used to stay with him. These other accused persons are not even supposed to be implicated in the matter,” he said.
But Magistrate Leonard Tembo said it was not up to the suspect to determine who killed the victim until the evidence is shown before the court.
Magistrate Tembo said the suspect could give the court the information he was advancing but it was not for him to excuse the other accused suspects.
“It is not up to you to decide who killed Chisanga, the court will determine it after the evidence is shown,” he said.
He said if the other five participated in the killing of Mr Chisanga, they would have to be charged accordingly after the evidence is determined by the courts of law.
The matter has since been adjourned to April 27.
