The Immigration department has deported 129 of the 130 illegal immigrants who were arrested at the Swedish Pentecostal Church of Zambia of Kamwala South in Lusaka.
The illegal immigrants were apprehended on Wednesday April 1, this year.
Immigration public relations officer Namati Nshinka said in a statement yesterday that the illegal immigrants were deported from the country on Friday.
Mr Nshinka said the group comprised 109 Burundese, 13 Tanzanians, 6 Congolese and one Rwandese.
“They were scheduled to appear in court for various immigration offences but the Department decided to remove them from the country in order to de-congest the prisons where they had been detained,” he said.
