FIRST Lady, Esther Lungu will grace the 2015 Lafarge Lusaka Marathon to be held next weekend.
Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president Elias Mpondela said the First Lady will not just grace the function but had committed herself to taking part in the five kilometre Health Walk.
Mpondela said in an interview that it was an honour for his association to be ‘dining’ with such high standing people as it showed how important such events were to the country’s health and sports development.
“We are delighted that the First Lady, Madam Esther Lungu has agreed to be guest of honour at the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon which will be held on April 18 here in Lusaka. She will not just be our guest but she will also be taking part in one of the events lined up,” he said.
Mpondela said the festivities of the marathon, which he dubbed a huge Family Day, would be held at Levy Park to supplement the 42km race.
The Lafarge Marathon will be the main event but would also have other athletics festivities including the five kilometres Health Walks and runs from Levy to Southern Sun Ridgeway and back.
There will also be a gruelling 10km walk and road race from Levy Park to State House and back before the participants embark on the 42km race which will bring competitors from the country.
