BY JOWIT SALUSEKI –
INITIALLY, the fans were enjoying the Mo Fire Band’s singing and dancing but later on, they got agitated at what they perceived as delays by Danny ‘Kaya’ to step on stage.
Some of Danny’s fans who had braved the chilly weather on Good Friday evening at Lusaka’s Mumana Pleasure Resort began hurling unprintables and threatening to demand their K40 fee back if Danny’ who’ s fondly known as ‘Bashi Niza,’ continued ‘wasting their time’.
Prior to Danny’s performance, songbird Indi –K known for her hit Ichipuba Chandi wowed the crowd with a couple of songs before she retired her microphone.
Patrick Mwamba Salubusa (otherwise known as Saulosi in the comedy circles) took time to leave the audience in stitches when he cracked various jokes mostly centred on social life in high density townships compared to life in more affluent neighbourhoods.
The moment everyone was waiting for finally arrived when Danny managed to take to the podium at exactly 23:01 hours! He was dressed in orange and black outfits which he marched with a black cap. He first unleashed one of his old favourites – As long as – a song which came out in year 2007, before dishing out I can’t believe, a song which he dedicated to a couple with whom he was friends.
The song was also well received by the revellers who reciprocated by renewing their ‘marriage’ vows as they danced two by two.
The audience made use of some charcoal braziers at the arena to keep themselves warm from the freezing cold.
After unleashing a myriad of tracks one after another, Danny invited to the stage Thomas Muchimba Buttenschon, a Zambian born Danish artiste to entertain the fans as well.
Thomas performed a song entitled Doing my Drugs, a track that encourages people living with the HIV virus to continue taking life-saving antiretroviral drugs.
Thomas was equally good in his own way, especially with his guitar which he strum with passion and enthusiasm.
By the early hours of Holy Saturday, the revellers were ready to leave for their various homes fully baptised with the music of Danny and his music compatriots. And ISAAC MUKANDO writes?Kitwe fans last Saturday braved the rains to watch one of Zambia’s most loved musicians Danny ‘Kaya’ perform at Buchi’s Club LeeLove.
Apart from braving the rains, the fans were patient enough to wait for engineers to attend to technical faults that nearly disrupted the show due to the heavy rainfall before the singer/song writer walked on stage.
As soon as the technical fault was sorted out, Club Leelove came to life as Danny aka ‘Bashi Niza’ stepped up on stage to do the hit songs to the crowd’s delight.
The Yakumbuyo singer was backed by the Mo Fire Band which provided live instrumentation music and a male dancer.
The fans were treated to a three-hour non-stop performance from Danny’s songs and his Mo Fire Band.
