By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –

FORMER Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) executive committee member Henschel Chitembeya has announced his intentions to contest the presidency at the 2016 elective annual general meeting (AGM).
Chitembeya said yesterday that he had decided to run for the country’s football top job because of lack of transparency in the running of football.
He said in a statement yesterday that he wants to instil a culture of transparency and accountability in the running of the country’s football.
“My leadership will espouse a culture of transparency in our dealings, accountability, humility, respect, inclusiveness and tolerance for criticism and divergent views,” he said.
Chitembeya, who resigned from the Kalusha Bwalya led executive committee in 2010 along with Emmanuel Munaile, Violet Bwalya and Pivoty Simwanza, becomes the second candidate to announce his candidature after Andrew Kamanga.
Chitembeya said his executive will legislate the term limit for FAZ officials once elected in office as the current system that allows officials to serve for as long as they can is retrogressive.
He has also promised to pursue the formation of an independent National Football League (NFL) as is the case with other countries.
He said Zambia’s football is in dire need of new leadership that will win the sponsors’ confidence in sponsoring the country’s lower leagues that have had no support for a long time.
