By SYLVIA MWEETWA –
CENTRAL Province medical officer, Rosemary Mwanza has attributed the delay in opening the newly constructed Serenje District Hospital to lack of staff to run the health facility.
Dr  Mwanza however, said  her  office  had  already  written to the Ministry  of Health on the  need  to  employ  staff  to  run  the health facility.
Dr  Mwanza said in an interview in Kabwe that the delay  to open  the  new facility to service  the  people of  Serenje and the surrounding areas would soon be resolved in the shortest possible time.
She  said  that  her  office  was of the view  that  the  already  exiting hospital  in Serenje  should be  left  to  operate side by side with the  newly constructed hospital.
“I want   to state  that  the delay to open the  newly  constructed hospital in Serenje district was  as  a result of  lack  staff to operate the  facilities  but  this  is being resolved by our  Ministry  which have assured  that  it  will assist in addressing the matter, “she said.
Dr Mwanza assured the people of the provincial administration’s commitment to ensure services were provided to the public and that once opened, the health facility in Serenje would assist decongest the old hospital.
She said with the planned construction of more health centres in various locations underway, the newly constructed hospital in Serenje would assist in taking health services closer to the people.
