CONSTRUCTION of cultural centres in the 10 provinces has commenced to enhance tourism activities in Zambia, Tourism and Art Minister Jean Kapata has said.
Ms Kapata said yesterday that so far, Government had put up cultural centres in four provinces, while the other six, would be erected during the year.
“So far, we have cultural centres functioning in Lusaka, Copperbelt, North-Western and Southern provinces and the purpose of the infrastructure was to entertain people with various activities.
“These include; cultural dances, traditional food exhibitions; to entertain people and bring them closer to the Zambian tourist rhythm,” she said.
Ms Kapata said the Government was also scouting for investors to put up conference centres so that each province had the capacity to host a major international event.
She said although one conference centre was currently under construction in Livingstone, the area still had arable land to house a similar facility.
“People should take advantage of this to erect additional infrastructure,” she said.
The minister added Government has also intensified the promotion of domestic tourism sites to increase awareness of the local tourist attractions among Zambians and people from abroad.
