ACTING President Inonge Wina has said Masaiti District on the Copperbelt Province is earmarked for massive developmental programmes that will transform the rural area.
Meanwhile, Ms Wina has assured chiefs in Masaiti that Government will ensure investors in the area give priority to employing local people.
Ms Wina said Masaiti would at the end of this month have a fully-fledged district hospital while the high school under construction in Masangano would be commissioned within the course of this year.
She said this at Masangano grounds yesterday where she held a public rally to drum-up support for the PF candidate in the forthcoming Masaiti Parliamentary by-election Michael Katambo.
Ms Wina said the area had also been earmarked to receive a facelift with tarred roads while other schools and hospitals would be constructed to beef-up the existing infrastructure.
“Construction of the district hospital is on course and the institution is expected to open by the end of this month, latest first week of May,” said Ms Wina much to the delight of residents who braved the rains to attend the rally.
Other candidates contesting the seat are Lyton Mokola on an independent ticket, Peter Mumba of the United Party for National Development (UPND), Mobby Mutaya of Fourth Revolution and Lason Musumali of the United National Independence Party (UNIP).
Ms Wina said rains in the country were below par and should Masaiti be affected by this, her office through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) would expeditiously move in to address the situation.
She also urged the gathering to ignore politics of tribe as Zambia was a unitary state founded on all-inclusiveness.
The Acting President was accompanied by PF secretary general Davis Chama, Chimwemwe Member of Parliament (MP) Mwenya Musenge, Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili and Shiwang’andu MP Steven Kampyongo.
Others were Mandevu MP Jean Kapata who is also campaign manager, Chingola MP Joseph Katema, Luano MP Davis Chisopa, State House deputy Minister Mulenga Sata and former Gender minister Patricia Mulasikwanda.
At the same rally, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president George Mpombo announced his role as deputy campaign manager for politics in the PF for the Masaiti by-election.
Defectors from the United Party for National Deployment (UPND) and MMD were also paraded during the rally.
Earlier, Ms Wina paid a courtesy call on senior chief Chiwala and senior chief Mushili of the Lamba speaking people.
Ms Wina assured the traditional leaders that their concerns and those of their subjects would be addressed by the Government.
