ABOUT 400 small-scale miners have petitioned Government to allocate them three slug dumps in Mufulira to sustain their livelihood.
In their petition, the miners commonly known as ‘jerabos’ have asked Government through the ministry of Mines to allocate to them the slug dumps in Salvage Yard, Kankoyo and Montana areas for their livelihood.
Speaking on behalf of others, Steven Mambwe said the youths of Mufulira should be given the slug dumps like was the case was with the Wusakile Black mountain in Kitwe which was currently in the hands of the youths.
“We have petitioned Government to give us the three slug dumps so that we are able to create jobs for ourselves. We are on our knees asking for the disused mines in Mufulira like they have done to the youths of Kitwe,” he said.
Mr Mambwe said this was one way of creating employment and ensuring that youths sustain their lives.
He said youths will stage a peaceful demonstration in Mufulira today to press Government and other stakeholders to give them the disused mines.
