BRIEF-CASETHE move by Mansa Sugar to invest about US$54 million in the sugar plantation in Chembe District of Luapula province is commendable.
This will see the company produce up to 18,000 tonnes of sugar per year and would create 450 jobs under phase one.
Another 750 jobs would be created under phase two of the project thereby stimulating growth in the province.

State move on vendors good

THE Government’s move to engage street vendors, especially those trading along the railway line in Lusaka has come at the right time.
Authorities should move in swiftly and reason with the vendors many of whom trade along dangerous roads such as Lumumba for example, which is clogged with heavy duty trucks.
The sooner to engage them, the better, as this will help reduce accidents which happen on an almost daily basis involving street vendors.

Zesco line rehab timely

THE rehabilitation of the Lusaka electricity transmission and distribution line by Zesco is an important project that will ensure long-term sustainability of the network.
Lusaka is regarded as the second fastest growing city in Africa and its electricity demand has grown at six per cent per annum over the previous 10 years.
Because of this, demand has outstripped the installed capacity of the power system supplying the city hence the World Bank project is a welcome relief.
