ZAMBIAN judokas yesterday bagged two gold medals at the ongoing Southern African Union Sports Council (SAUSC) Judo Championship in Manzini, Swaziland.
Simon Zulu minted gold in the 60kg category after defeating all his four opponents from Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa and Botswana with quick ippons.
Just as Zambia was celebrating and letting the gold medal sink in, Lungowe Chibdele added one more gold medal in 52kg category after subduing her opponents to put a shine of Zambia’s outing.
Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) president Alfred Foloko said he was pleased with the performance of the group considering that they travelled a long distance to Swaziland by bus and still managed to win gold medals.
Foloko said in an interview yesterday that the association would ensure that the country received medals even under difficult circumstances.
“Thank you to the Judokas for their hard work. They endured a long trip by bus and overcame all odds to win gold medals. We shall endeavour to give the nation medals even under difficult circumstances,” he said.
Foloko remained optimistic and promised more medals from the 19 Zambian judokas who left for Swaziland on Wednesday by road to take part in the SAUSC
