A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD school girl who was allegedly defiled by a police officer in Kabwe yesterday told the court that she was defiled by the accused person.
The 14-year-old girl who is alleged to have been defiled by Josphat Mukuwa, 30, had earlier failed to narrate the ordeal before the court.
Mukuwa, a police officer at Kabwe Central Police is accused of defiling the school girl between February 14 and 16, 2015.
The girl who was testifying before Magistrate Chimuka Mutafela at first kept saying things that were not part of the statement that she gave at the police station.
This prompted State prosecutor Aaron Kuyeli to make an application to the court to consider the witness hostile.
Mr Mutafela then granted the application that the witness be considered hostile and allowed the prosecutor to cross examine the witness.
In cross examination, the girl told the court that on February 14, around 14:00 hours, she left home and went for sports activities at Kabwe High School grounds.
Later around 16:00 hours she then left for town with her friend and her friend’s boyfriend.
She said when they arrived in town, the friend and the boyfriend left her with the accused at Kabwe Central Police where he works.
The girl told the court that she went to Mukuwa’s place where her friend and her boyfriend later picked her after which she was dropped home.
She told the court that Mukuwa did not have sex with her but dropped her off together with her friends the same day on Friday.
When asked whether Mukuwa had sex with her, she refused but after she was made to read the statement that was taken from her at the police station; she admitted that the accused had sex with her.
Meanwhile, another witness, her father told the court that on February 14, his daughter went missing and only came back home after two days.
The father said his daughter left home for Kabwe High School grounds and did not come back until after two days which prompted him to report the matter to the police station.
He told the court that when his daughter went back home, he took her to the police station as he had already reported the matter.
He said her daughter then gave a statement voluntarily that she was with Mukuwa and had been defiled.
The matter has since been adjourned to April 1, 2015 for continuation of trial.
