ORIENTAL Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) yesterday received a combined sponsorship worth K180,000 from News Café and Karibu Investment Limited for the two World Boxing Council (WBC) title fights slated for April 25.
WBC bantamweight Silver champion Catherine Phiri will fight a yet-to-be named boxer for the gold belt at Government Complex after Jessica Gonzalez of Mexico pulled out while Charles Manyuchi will defend his WBC welterweight title against Mexican Silerio Ortiz.
Marketing and promotions specialist Theo Mumba said News Café was offering K120,000 worth of venue sponsorship to OQBP to conduct their briefings for a year.
“News Café management and staff sat down and decided that we would give a
venue sponsorship worth K120,000 so that you do not book for any other venue whenever Oriental Quarries has a Press briefing like this one,” he said.
Karibu Investment Limited stock and marketing manager Erickson Hagenimand said his company was offering foodstuffs worth K60,000 to feed the boxers while they were in camp.
Hagenimand said nutrition was very cardinal especially for the boxers and thus its gesture.
OQBP operations manager Christopher Malunga said K460, 000 has been raised so far out of the K763,000 budgeted for the tournament.
