By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
FORMER Kabwe Warriors chairperson Andrew Kamanga and sports media consultant Ponga Liwewe have not been retained in the newly reconstituted Power Dynamos Football Club (PDFC) executive committee.
Ponga - KamangaKamanga and Ponga, who were appointed in December 2013 on a one-year term of office, have been left out along with treasurer Eugene Mpolokoso, who has been replaced by Heggie Kalangwa.
Benny Simukoko and George Lungu have maintained their positions as chairperson and vice respectively, same for Ricky Mamfunda who continues as club chief executive officer.
This is according to a statement released by Mamfunda yesterday and copied to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary.
Mamfunda said that the changes have been necessitated to enhance service delivery in preparation for the launch of PDFC as a business entity in the few months.
Morton M’gemezulu is the only surviving member from the previous committee members that has seen also the likes of Precious Chisenga, Edward Ngosa and Fred Chalenga replaced by Muntanga Sibalwa, Obed Chishala, Chishimba Kaela and Ronald Lungu.
Meanwhile, Ponga said his year at PDFC was an interesting experience.
“I only actually served on the committee from January to June and then was recused from sitting on the committee to avoid a conflict of interest because my company Mpila Media Limited was engaged to come up with a business plan to make recommendations for PDFC to meet its club licensing obligations and to operate as a standalone business entity. The report has since been submitted to PDFC,” he said.
He said his only regret was the failure to win the league title, which he felt was lost by Power rather than won by Zesco United.
And Kamanga said his stay at Power as an executive committee member was fruitful after the club managed to finish as runners up in the MTN-FAZ Super league last season to subsequently clinch a 2015 CAF Confederation Cup spot.
He said his one-year tenure at the Kitwe giants expired at the end of the 2014 soccer season and that he was readily available to serve on any club’s executive committee that will require his services.
“Our letters of appointment at Power stated that we would only serve for one year and the tenure simply expired at the end of last season. We did our part and it’s time for others to carry on and I am happy with efforts that we put in.
Serving at Power as committee member after leaving Warriors as Chairman was a good experience for me and I learnt a lot of things. People who always want to be on top should draw lessons from me by also accepting to serve at the bottom,” he said.
